There are potential benefits and risks of video-conferencing (e.g. limits to patient confidentiality) that differ from in-person sessions.





What is a telehealth consultation?

A Telehealth consultation is a consultation where you and your Psychologist are not in the same room as each other and use technology to be able to see and hear each other. At the time of your consultation, you will be able to choose between a video and audio consultation using Coviu as a platform or an audio-only consultation via telephone.



What are the benefits & risks of video conferencing?

The benefits of a telehealth consultations are that they:

  • Remove the spread of infection by remove the need to share physical space

  • Save time travel to appointments

  • Reduce the stress and strain on your loved ones and carers who travel with you or look after family members when you go to an appointment

  • Receive the same high-quality care in the convenience of your own home

The risks of a telehealth consultations are that they:

  • Require greater preparation to manage safety and risk

  • May be limited by interruptions in technology Research indicates that telehealth is be as effective as face-to-face therapy. You can explore the evidence-base here.

  • A follow up appointment will be made if required
